One of the big differences in
Eastern and Western cultures
has to do with the how we move
through life.
As Westerners most of us live a
fast paced lifestyle...lots of
stress, deadlines, alarm clocks
and always having to PUSH soooo
hard to keep up, to achieve, to
accomplish.
But at what price?
For most of us, life speeds by
unnoticed.
We're "too busy" to play with the
kids, to make that important phone
call to our family or to appreciate
the amazing sunset, or the wagging
of our dog's tail when we walk into
a room.
We forget to say, "good morning"
and "how are you" and "I love you"
because we're in a rush to get
somewhere or do something that we
care about a whole lot less than
the people we're brushing off and
overlooking.
And why? Why do we live this
"autopilot" kind of life?
I think it's because most people
don't realize they have a choice.
Most people feel like they're doing
the best they can to provide for
their families and get by. Living
life stressed out, and struggling
seems to be considered "normal"...
almost expected.
Buddha encouraged people to...
"Be Here Now."
And while I'm not a Buddhist, I
take this concept very seriously.
It means, be present and aware
in THIS moment. Appreciate the
NOW because the truth is--it's
all you've got and it's where
your POWER is.
Stop right now and look around.
Really look.
Pay attention to the temperature
of the room. The smells. The sounds.
The people.
This moment. Right now is ALL there
is. The past doesn't matter--it's done
and over. The future is being created
by THIS MOMENT...the things that you
think about and focus on and how you
feel.
What are YOU creating NOW?
When you "really get this" you WAKE UP.
You realize there's no point whatsoever
in staying stuck on "what was". No point
in replaying and re-hashing and getting
all tied up in regrets.
NOW is your point of power.
THIS MOMENT could be your moment to turn
everything around. You can begin creating
the life you want RIGHT NOW.
TODAY is your day of decision. And it's
as simple as BEING HERE NOW.
Be aware of what you're thinking about
and focused on.
Be aware of how you feel.
If you're focused on what you want and
FEELING GOOD then you're moving in the
right direction.
If you're feeling stuck and irritated
or frustrated and discouraged then all
you need to do is CHANGE IT NOW.
This is YOUR MOMENT.
Focus on what you WANT.
Begin creating it NOW.
Because the truth is, it's all you've got.
Step Up!
Be the Voice in your head.
You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to do!
